Sexual assault often impacts many aspects of a person's life. Case managers can provide many types of immediate and long term assistance to victims of sexual assault. The Rape Assistance and Awareness Program (RAAP) offers free case management services, in English and Spanish, to women and men ages 13yrs and older who have been sexually assaulted.
Case management provides assistance and referrals for basic needs such as shelter, food, clothing, and rent assistance. Case Managers can provide assistance and support with the medical and reporting process as well as accompaniment to hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and court appointments. They also assist with applying for victim compensation if the assault has been reported, however victims of sexual assault can use case management services whether or not the crime has been reported.
A case manager can be reached by calling the office during business hours at 303-329-9922.
If a victim needs emergency assistance, a case manager can be reached 24 hours a day through the rape crisis hotline at 303-322-7273.
Please contact a case manager if you or someone you know needs any of the following:
- Accompaniment to the emergency department or medical clinic after a sexual assault
- Accompaniment to the police department to file a sex assault report
- Accompaniment to court if the sex assault case is being prosecuted
- Accompaniment to court for civil restraining orders related to the sex assault
- Transportation to appointments related to the sex assault (on a case by case basis)
- Assistance with applying for victim compensation if the crime has been reported
- Referrals for shelter, food, clothing, rent assistance, etc.
Case Management Volunteer Opportunities
RAAP hotline volunteers have the opportunity to become case manager volunteers. Case manager volunteers respond to the hospital when a sex assault victim is in need of advocacy. Hotline volunteers are interviewed before being selected to participate. Selected volunteers must attend a case manager training in addition to the hotline training they've already completed. They then shadow experienced case managers at the hospital. Volunteers must attend bi-monthly case manager meetings in addition to the monthly hotline meetings. Case manager meetings are mandatory and are scheduled for the 2nd Monday of even months beginning at 6:30 p.m. Volunteers commit to at least 1 year of service and cover weekend and/or weeknight shifts. Weeknight shifts are Mon-Thurs 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and weekend shifts are 5 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday. The case manager training is given on an as needed basis.
