If you are a victim of a violent crime and have reported to law enforcement, you may be eligible for victim compensation. Victim compensation funds come from fines paid by convicted criminals. Victim compensation can assist with hospital bills, therapy, lost wages, and replacement of eyeglasses or other medical necessities that were damaged at the time of the crime. Victim compensation can also pay for damage to residential doors, locks, and windows. Victim compensation cannot reimburse for wages lost due to court appearances. Decisions about compensation and the timeframe in which a claim is processed vary from district to district.
